Postworthy Lyrics

I listen to lots of music throughout the course of the day, and occasionally a lyric jumps out and grabs my attention. I thought it would be fun to share some of the more memorable ones. I’ll try to post some each week:

When I was 2 and a half
My momma said to me
Love is funny, you will laugh
Until the day you turn 3

From “If There’s Such a Thing as Love” by The Magnetic Fields

Yeah, we didn’t go to Dallas
Yeah, ’cause Jackie Onassis said
That it ain’t safe for Catholics yet

From “Don’t Let Me Explode” by The Hold Steady

I’m a donkey’s tail
Pinned 5 feet away from the ass

From “Firecracker” by Marah

We’re gonna be the band who writes the song
That makes Israel and Palestine get along

From “Formed A Band” by Art Brut

Life’s like an hourglass
Glued to the table

From “Breathe (2AM)” by Anna Nalick

If I had a ceiling fan for every time you made a plan
Then told me you had plans and couldn’t go,
The hurricane would wreck my bed,
And leave my shingle roof for dead,
And my broken heart scattered to and fro.

From “Radio” by One Ring Zero (lyrics by Daniel Handler)

And why do people who read Dostoevsky always look like Dostoevsky?

From “Here Comes A City” by The Go-Betweens
